Sherri Levine

Prior to joining ASC in July 2023, Sherri was the Executive Director of Kolot Chayeinu/Voices of Our Lives, a Brooklyn-based progressive synagogue for six years, and the Associate Director of Fordham Law School’s Stein Center for Law and Ethics before that. Earlier in her professional life, Sherri worked as a union-side labor lawyer in NYC.

Coordinator

Carolina Montano

A Miami, FL native and first-generation Cuban-American, Carolina witnessed first-hand what the immigrant experience in this country is like. Prior to joining ASC, she was part of the Immigrant Services team at Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement, and worked with youth at Sponsors for Educational Opportunity. She is interested in using her experience to focus on serving communities and improving access to resources for marginalized groups. She has a BA in Psychology and International Relations from Wesleyan University, and is pursuing her master’s degree in Developmental Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University.

Nancy Goldhill

Nancy is a retired lawyer who spent most of her career working at Legal Services offices assisting poor and low-income people, including many immigrants. She was a volunteer attorney with the New Sanctuary Coalition, helping immigrants apply for asylum.

Stephan Russo

Stephan has extensive experience in the management and delivery of human services in NYC. He stepped down as the Executive Director of Goddard Riverside Community Center in February 2017 after a career spanning more than four decades. He is a fierce advocate for building strong communities to combat poverty and address issues of inequity and is on the Board of Centro de Recursos Educativos para Adultos, Inc. (CREA).

Michael Onah

Michael is a Staff Attorney in the Legal Aid Society’s Parole Revocation Defense Unit. He was previously a death penalty habeas attorney at Phillips Black, Inc., and an adjunct professor at St. John’s University School of Law. He was also a volunteer lawyer at the New Sanctuary Coalition.

Nancy Muirhead

Nancy is counsel and corporate secretary at the Rockefeller Brothers Fund. Nancy was the volunteer attorney coordinator and worked as a volunteer lawyer at the New Sanctuary Coalition and is on the steering committee of the Refugee Employment Partnership.

Miguel Orea

Miguel is an Abolitionist and immigration activist dedicated to creating more just and compassionate systems that center the humanity of all marginalized peoples. Miguel has been active in the struggles for justice immigration throughout his professional career including at places such as First Friends of NJ & NY.

Sarah Sklaw

Sarah is an immigration activist who has worked on asylum cases for eight years. She holds a PhD from NYU with a focus on U.S.-Central American foreign relations. Sarah is a volunteer interpreter and leads the Work Authorization team at the Asylum Support Clinic.

Amy Kantrowitz

Amy has two decades of experience working with startup NYC nonprofit organizations as staff, board member, consultant, and volunteer. From 2020-2021, she managed New Sanctuary Coalition’s volunteer programming, after volunteering for several years in both program and fundraising roles.
